MOTHER'S DAY

mother's day

today, this day of life
i see the warmth of the flowers
more than the vase
that they are contained in

i guess this is how
i will always see you, mom...
even if flowers may surrender
their composure to time.

and then i saw that the open field
was no longer empty...

it caught the moon.

YOUTH

Young, wild, proud and free,
not out to break the rules
that they did not make
but out to test the limits,
even to the breaking point,
like testing the waters
before wading in,
and triggering an almost nostalgic shudder in my veins
when some would just up
and plunge in.

Youth is a hardened mold of defiance
pestered to submission by elders
towards that slow pace
of perfection
of learning how to fetch
while unknowingly serving
as nourishment
to the politics of men.

But life has more than one path,
different from just mouthing the mantra
that bogus is good,
and where you don’t have to kick ass
to be a hero.
Un-knot the oak
and the age won’t reveal the years
but just the spunk and spirit
it had accumulated.

Such is the foundation for change.
